Future-Proofing the Galvanizing Industry
Set to completely revolutionise the galvanizing industry, Hasco-Thermic Ltd has developed world-leading furnace control technology, transforming how burners are controlled, and allowing businesses to totally enhance sustainability efforts.
Not only does the innovative technology aid efficiency, longevity, and future-proof galvanizing plants, but it’s set to also save time and costs for companies – savings most welcome during this period of rising energy costs.
Wedge Group Galvanizing Ltd is the first to implement this pioneering technology, gradually introducing across their 14 nationwide plants. To date, they’ve reported an average 15% saving on gas, and depending on the technology level of existing equipment, this is providing a payback of between four to 10 months. Not to mention a significant reduction in carbon emissions, enhancing Wedge Group’s sustainability credentials.
Angela Curtis, Managing Director at Hasco-Thermic, said: “When we came up with the original idea of Smart Firing, we hadn’t fully appreciated the potential savings that could be made – and they’ve been much higher than we anticipated. By the end of the year, we’ll have successfully converted almost all of Wedge Group Galvanizing’s 14 plants and are incredibly keen for the business to benefit from this technology as soon as possible to maximise the magnitude of savings available.”
With a genuine passion to make the industry more sustainable, Angela recently presented this new technology and decarbonisation in the galvanizing sector at the annual European conference in Salzburg in June.
She added: “Following the immense success that Wedge Group Galvanizing has reported since implementing this technology, we’re hoping to be able to offer it to the wider galvanizing industry – and even other businesses within the metals sector – very soon. We’re keen to support companies to save time, money, and resources, but also to provide a more eco-friendly solution.”
David Nobes, Technical Services Director at Wedge Group Galvanizing, concluded: “This innovative furnace technology has made a significant impact to the Wedge Group, helping to reduce both energy usage and costs. Over the next few months, we endeavour to have this fully functioning company-wide, to totally take advantage of the benefits.
“The new technology contains many remote monitoring and analysis benefits, combined with alarms and automated notifications for our on-site leadership teams. Not only have our operations been more efficient, but it’s also a significant step in our progress towards government CO2 reduction targets and our ultimate objective to be a Net Zero business.”
Wedge Group Galvanizing Ltd is the largest hot-dip galvanizing organisation in the UK with a history dating back over 150 years. With 14 plants strategically placed across the country, the firm offers a truly national galvanizing service.
